Key Information

Role: App UI Designer, Researcher
Software: Figma

Overview

This project was to create a fictional app of our group's choice and to develop a semi-interactive prototype on Figma. This project involved researching other parts like market issues, business models, etc but this project page focuses more on the prototype that was created.

Goal Of This Project:

The goal of this project is to showcase creativity in creating an app and skills in app UI design from UI and app development courses.

As a designer, I was tasked with creating the wireframes and prototype on Figma and researching.

Research

To begin the project, my team did some brainstorming on what website to study. After a couple minutes of research, the team settled on Lipton’s Tea. We thought it would be an easy site to study and an interesting topic as it's about tea.

Brainstorming was simple. We knew we wanted to create an app that was a service, a hiring app. So, we thought of the big market where  names like Uber and Doordash are leading the competition. My group found and researched that their biggest issue was customer service. This was also experienced by some of my group members. There were many reviews about how inadequate customer service was, so we decided to target that. Rainbowo is an app to train freelance drivers looking to enter the industry with an edge, being certified in customer and driving services. Then, we moved onto the Figma for prototyping.

Overview

This group project was to create a fictional app, in the project's case a hiring app, and to mock it up on Figma with a simple functional prototype and creating an app pitch using theories/strategies learned in class.

Prototyping

We started with low-fi wireframes to keep altering until we decided on a final design that was suitable. We decided to have around 10 pages as our app had certain features like training and union section and a potential form for users to fill out. My group also decided to have a light colour palette for a calm and minimal appearance. Once a design was settled, my group moved onto the high-fi wireframes with images and using our chosen colour palette. The design was overall clean and simple, just as we wanted.

Reviewing

Although my group settled on design, there were many iterations of the prototypes as we felt the content could be adjusted and the positioning of certain elements like buttons. My group went back and forth on reviewing the prototypes until we came to an agreement that the wireframes were done and there weren’t many more ideas we thought of adding.

Results

The result was a simple but functional prototype of our app. Although there could be more to add to our app, content-wise or improving on design, my group will leave that to the next iterations. This project has taught me the complexities of launching an app and finding its spot in the market. An introduction into the app development field, which also made another successful app creation on Figma.

Takeaways

1. To showcase app UI design skills from UI and app development courses

2. Learning how to research the market for other competitors of our app idea
